I don't use a database for my site search. The pages are indexed and
returned. Based on the urls generated by the database. If a page is
reachable without using the database though something like a site map or
category index page then it is indexed.

You can also input keywords and/or categories in the database when you are
adding the entry for the document. That's how I generate the category pages
on sites with a lot of documents. While some people prefer to use search
others prefer to browse category listings. That way you can have both.

Would they be "searchable" though? I'm thinking that at a minimum, the text
would not be. Though it would surely save a lot of work.
