Folks,

Going a bit into unknown here. A client of mine is launching a glossy print
publication and a website. To begin with the print publication will be the
focus of the brand. Currently advertising spots are being sold on the
website as part of a package with the print publication. The website has a
column down the right hand side with a list of rectangular images / flash
files that link through to third party advertiser's websites. To start with
the advertiser is just getting the image on the site for a specified period
of time.

My client wants to be able to monitor the click through for each of these
third party advertisers. I'd imagine he is looking for this because he
intends to charge on click through in the future when the site builds up
momentum, although he currently seems to be in two minds abou this.

I've waded through a lot of stuff on monitoring online advertising and the
like and it is all a bit bewildering. Also it is difficult to judge how good
or otherwise a package is relative to the likely needs of this particular
site.

Does anyone have any recommendations on good packages for managing online
advertising? Are we going the right way in the set up of the advertising on
this site? Does anyone know of good primers on managing online advertising?

TIA,

John.
