Hi Franni,

I was rather afraid it might be 'virtual occult' and a mystery beyond the reach of science and technology ;-). Sometimes restarting a browser does work, but mostly I have to restart the computer to bring it back to working. Even unplugging the ethernet cable and reattaching works from time to time.

I was wondering if anyone had a take on the logic which must be at play, and so lead to the possible cause. Just possible that it has to do with software conflict, but there isn't that much on the laptop which I am trying to keep to one project at the moment.

When I used to use IE on one of our macs it did that all the time - quitting the browser & restarting it always solved the prob but it was
a pain.

I am used to the wierdness of the digital world, however some things seem
bizarre even by those standards ;-).

My Dell Inspiron 1300 likes sending and downloading mail via broadband, indeed almost chortles with delight. However after a short time [hours to a day] it yawns and ignores all requests to access webpages, pretending a cable is unplugged, even while it merrily downloads, uploads and
investigates mail.

I suspect his has to do with ports and consequent docker (stevedore) strikes. However I cannot see how to sort this out. Of course, your experience may tell me there is osme other fault - browsers IE, Firefox and
Opera are all in on this conspiracy.

Windows IE diagnostic usually claims a wire is unplugged, even while mail is
downloading!

Many thanks as always for any help.

Joseph Harris
