Thanks for the comments Tim. With a fresh pair of eyes this morning I quickly looked up the Javascript methods for <select> boxes and had a play with selecting all list items through code before submitting the form. Functionally it works fine for my purposes (and budget) so I'm happy with this for now, but I'm planning on playing with a more elegant and pretty solution once this job's out of the way.
