I checked out the ipix.com site and, in fact, called for information.
They're faxing me additional pricing info, but this is a pretty
expensive deal! Their digital camera kit is $2K, and the film camera kit
is $3,495. Plus you have to purchase each "image" (2 shots combined)
from them. The basic software comes with each kit, but you must upgrade
for another $500 if you want the sound module. In addition, the software
is not yet available for the MAC, which is all we use! (Does this mean
we have to add in the cost of a PC to our proposal?) This all would be
very nice if we *knew* we were doing several sites that would utilize
this technology, so that we could spread the cost out among clients. But
we're not nearly that big yet!
However, the IPIX plug-in takes about 5 minutes to upload (as compared
to a 7 Mb file for QuickTime 3 -- almost an hour at 28.8!), but the
viewer has to install it and then restart the computer. Will they want
to do that? Hmmm....
