I am being notified in exactly the same way by a law firm regarding a
page on my site for a third party. They are threatening to add me to a
defamation suit regarding "super blue green algae", which is in reality a
cyanobacteria. http://www.mall-net.com/mcs/algae.html . TRhe author has
presented similar documents elsewhere, most of which have been withdrawn.
They are complaining that the presentation of quotations, mostly from
scientific literature, is defamatory, as is a quotation that was never on
that site. The suit is filed in Washington State, against the author of
the documents, a California resident. The company is a major employer in
the region of the state court. If the documents are not withdrawn, they
are threatening to add me to the suit. The author is fighting to get the
suit into Federal court, where he believes he will likely win.
If they win, it will be a major victory for forces that want to shut
down all free speach on the net. Deja News seems to have caved in and
withdrawn all copies of the documents which had been posted on the usenet
news many times.
I asked for a copy of any court injunction or other orders regarding
the author. Their response consists of further threats of adding me to
the suit.
I could use some help.
