I agree, the blank looks strange. I waited for something else to appear in
that spot, then noticed the page had finished loading. Maybe a color
change and italic text (static for that page), or some such.

It's a noticeable change, but not very distinct. Provides enough feedback,
I guess.

Looks too small, particularly for we middle-aged folk. If the font size is
larger, the rollover effect would be more noticable as well.

Then again, nobody has ever accused me of having an over-developed
aesthetic sense.
