It goes both ways. Algae is a plant that some people eat. We eat
seaweeds of various forms, as kelp, dulse, and others served with fish and
rice. We eat many bacterial products as well, including cheese, tofu, and
yogurt. As to our regular plant foods, they are loaded with carcinogenic
and mutagenic chemicals generated BY THE PLANTS THEMSELVES! Ames, the
fellow who made the cancer test, was appalled when he finally started
looking at our natural plant foods. But heck, they are far better for us

Everything you eat is toxic to something. Think about it for a
moment, if it wasn't toxic, something else would have eaten it or rotted
it long before you did. We have evolved to treat a lot of those toxicants
as flavors, and destroy them in our stomaches and intestinal tracts. (And
basically evolved to kill off anything that thinks of us as yummy morsels.
Good ole Daniel Boon did it when he was only three. The song says "killed
himself a bear, when he was only three.")
It isn't simple to whack off these algae guys without exposing
legitimate folks to FDA oppression, as the FDA wants to keep us from
eating megadoses of vitamins, hates herbs, etc. Remember, The FDA
suppressed natural L-Tryptophan, a tremendous anti-depressant, so that
Prozac could gain a foothold. This, after only ONE defective batch of
L-Tryptophan from Japan hit the market. Then they raided a doctor in
Washington state who filed a lawsuit to re-enable the sale of
L-Tryptophan, eventually charging him with the use of un-preserved
injectable B-12 from Germany. IN the process, they gave one of his
patients a heart attack when they raided the place by breaking down an
UNLOCKED door and storming in with guns drawn. Lots of people have
allergies to the preservatives! (Like me!) But oh no, they don't want to
let us use natural vitamins...
That raid and the related attempt by the FDA to censor all nutrition
and vitamin information in the USA lead to, according to columnist George
Will, the largest avalanche of mail to Congress, larger than even Hillary's
attempts to ration medical care. And by the way, the day Clinton
mentioned managed health care on TV just before Christmas? "Managed health
care" and "Managed care" topped the list on all the search engines for
hours!
So we have to balance our reactions, lest we inadvertently go too far
in either direction. We don't want the vitamin police to arrest us for
eating healthy food, nor allow industry to feed us toxic sludge as food
supplements.
But given a choice, I'd favor open discussion of what is and is not
good for us, and killing off the FDA rather than entrepreneurs like these
algae folks and those other folks who nearly killed me with their
microhydrin silicon hydride. Those SOB's only last so long; where as
government agencies are nearly immortal, are nearly impossible to sue, and
claim they always know better than even the best medical researchers.
Their deaths are not insignificant, but Nearly Impossible to even infer in
Government statistics.
I'd rather die at the hands of mistaken entrepreneurs, adding to
human knowledge, than at the hands of onmi-assient government burro-crats
who re-write history as they please.
