I'm an Anarchie-ist (some would say in more ways than one). :-) Basically, if you can
use the Finder, you can use Anarchie. It's pretty darn simple. Any remote files and
folders display in Finder-like windows (attributes such as type, size, machine, path,
etc. are also displayed, and the window can be sorted by them, too). To retrieve a
file from a remote host, either double-click the file's listing, or drag and drop it
to your desktop or other destination folder. To download an entire folder, you have to
drag and drop or use an FTP dialog box. Uploading is the reverse of downloading
(sounds a lot like a cheap automotive shop manual).
Other randomly-though-of neat tricks:
- Anarchie won't let you abort a connection once it's substantially into the session
without a confirmation. This makes a nice safety net in case you're prone to
accidentally closing windows. :-P
- It's scriptable (but so is Fetch). This is very cool if you're into scripting.
Frontier has excellent support for both.
- Files on a remote server can be deleted by dragging them to your desktop trash can.
- Anarchie supports SIVC ('Simple Internet Version Control') and will automagically
tell you when a newer version is available.
- Great online help to teach you all the other not-so-apparent tricks.
It's been quite some time since I used Fetch (been using Anarchie since ~1.x, and it's
now at 2.0.1), so I can't really make a fair comparison any longer. At the time I
switched, however, I found Anarchie far more intuitive (Finder-like) than Fetch.
