      The question is based on the possibility that Tom Watson, if he was
Dr. Bell's assistant, would have ended up with enough money to start IBM
by buying up other companies. When I saw a film clip of the Tom Watson
that had helped Alexander Graham Bell; he was in a large corporate office
talking about his early telephone involvement.  That office looked very
much like something that would have been early IBM style, not telephone
company style. But... who can say.
