Hi I'd like to get some feed back on the use of programs such as Netmeeting, the Netscape Conference module and other similiar programs that run through the net only. (not net to phone type programs) I have to walk someone though a new list server with web based admin and archives and as they are 1000kms away, I'm not keen on the telephone bill. I spent several hours testing a couple of programs with a regular user of Netmeeting (who is a lot closer). In the past I've just used a chat program or the old Talk program but this one really needs voice. NetMeeting went very well and we had telephone quality voice and the whiteboard etc running perfectly over my 28.8 modem. She talks to a contractor, an Australian, who is currently in Norway, all the time as well as others working with her on projects all over Australia. Though she tells me that the line to Tasmania must be waterlogged :). However... (yes, another however) The person I need to talk to is on a Mac and Billy hasn't made a version for it. We tested the Netscape Conference module and couldn't get any of the extra bits working (chat, whiteboard etc) and the quality of the voice was very bad and broken. I suspect that something wasn't set quite right or one of our isp's can't handle it or is it that bad? While I have a Mac, I run it through Wingate to an NT4 server that's connected to the net. My testing was on the NT without using wingate. So I would need a crossplatform product... (free of course :). Any clues or tricks to using the Netscape Conference module? As an aside... I couldn't find a working mic that would plug into the PC so I used the world's most expensive microphone... I used the Mac microphone on the Mac and plugged the headphones output of the Mac into the mic input of the PC. I had to cut the sensitivity way back but it worked just fine :) The mic on my Mac 7500 has what looks like a standard stereo mini jack but if you look at it the "zones" for stereo are nonstandard spacing so it doesn't really work in the standard plug on the PC. thanks Bruce ____________________________________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------------- Join The Web Consultants Association : Register on our web site Now Web Consultants Web Site : http://just4u.com/webconsultants If you lose the instructions All subscription/unsubscribing can be done directly from our website for all our lists. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
