Ronnie,

Usually there is an "html" directory which then has all of the server directories
under it.  You can of course, call that directory whatever you like as long as
each server has the correct path configured.  I don't see the point in mirroring
a directory on the same server, although mirroring onto another server would have
benefits.

You don't mention which server software package they are running, but some will
allow remote administration, in which case you could take a look at the setup and
discover what is really being used.  It may just be a case of moving things
around and not cleaning up afterwards.
