I have read in several sources that informed people question the tech
industry's assertion that there is a shortage of qualified workers. Some
maintain that there is no shortage, the tech industry wants to hire young
well-educated people who are willing to work their butts off at moderate
pay levels and who have exactly the skills required. Of course, there are
only so many of these types to go around.
I tend to feel that this is the reality of the situation, not that a truly
serious 'shortage' exists.
however, as globablization proceeds, it is going to become increasingly
pointless for govts. to try to force companies to hire workers from within
their country: they will simply outsource the work to where the workers are
who will do it the cheapest.
yes, I recognize that there are many practical obstacles to this, but I
predict it will become increasingly common in the future.
