When I firstcame with the idea to start my own consulting after years
of personal indiviuadl designing I couldn't believe all the loads of info I
neede to aquaint myself with. I've discovered that designing pages for
business is alot different than for friends and co-workers. I went to many
resources (books, SCORE, internet ect..) A friend than introduced me to the
idea of joining a listserv to gain knowledge from people who are in the
business and wiser than I. When I sent my first e-mail I wrote in caps(not to
seem as yelling) but becasue I was excited that I found a place where I could
possibly learn alot. I got a few neg responces so I quicky changed from caps
to lower-case.
People have asked to introduce my work, BUT I have done many indivdual
pages for people that are password protected. That's why I asid that I
couldn't just give out my URL's to everyone. If someone wanted to see a work
in order to undestand better what I'm into, than I would have make a greater
effort to put a sample (co page) on the web for a brief period of time.
I was definately not looking to make any enimies on the net, but I
still can't understand why some people were so judgmental and lacked
understanding for my postion. All of you were once in the place where I am
(starting a business endevor) Most people here have more experience and
knowledge about the net and the proper attitude on it. I've made some
mistakes, but I think there could have been a more proper way to address it( a
personal e-mail to me maybe telling me what I did wrong and what I could do
correct it) instead of yeling and calling names to a fellow designer.
I think I could have learned alot here, and perhaps offered some good
feedback myself. But I think I'll be moving on to a more friendly
enviornment.
