Kathy, that snippet "He was concerned that 'clearing out bank accounts and
food stores might become commonplace. The alarmists essentially would have
created the problem they intended to flee.' " Kinda got to the heart of the
matter...
A couple of years ago I remember talking to a friend in one of those 3:00
am college conversations when we were debating back and forth about
theology, mythology and when the millenium actually would happen.
After watching the debate die down, I shrugged. "It's a moot point. It's a
moot point if the world comes to an end when the clock strikes midnight on
Dec 31st. I'm scared of the people who -think- that the world will come to
an end."
Mass Hysteria may be just as bad as actual events. Let me tell ya, I do
-not- want to be in New York when the ball drops. Drunken people partying
like it is 1999. Chaos as people work them up into a frenzy. Having the
ball in mid-drop go Zzzzt! Zzzzt! as the power grid fails and as computers
fail would really not make my day.
But in December, I will be stockpiling a month's worth of canned goods, and
many gallon jugs of watter, suitible for any El Nino enhanced blizzard,
regular New England blizzard, or Y2K enhanced power outages.
