My clients are freaked out about proxy servers, and I don't even know what
a proxy server is. The problem first arose a couple of days ago when the
CEO kept accusing me of having made corrections on one without making them
on the mirror site. Finally someone there figured that they needed to turn
off a proxy option in their browsers in order to see the most current
version of a site, and things quieted down. In that first incident, the
site where they weren't seeing corrections lives on their own ISP, CDSnet.
Now, they're screaming about a problem with proxies on the mirror site,
which runs on the WiseEarth server. I don't know anything about proxy
servers or what to tell them. Here's what they say:
"There seems to be some kind of incompatibility with the Wise Earth host
and proxy servers. We've had problems, big, worrisome problems on all
of our computers today and they've all been related to proxy and cache
concerns. I hope that it only affects us locally but it may be
widespread. I have never had a problem using a proxy server. Now the
ONLY way I can access the Wise Earth site is by turning off proxy
servers. I don't know if users in far away places are having the same
problems, but if they are, it's a major disaster."
Do you have any idea what's happening or what I should tell them?
