Hmmmm...All portals need shopping, so you'll need to sell buzzword related
items. T-shirts for sure (never did get our WC shirts done, so I'm in
need). And how about BWBingo mousepads? You could also do like Starbucks
only instead of Christmas Blend or Gazebo Blend you could sell
BuzzwordBingo Blend ("a soothing mix of Ethiopian Portal and Kona Branding,
with just a touch of Arabica Y2K"). Buzzword coasters, too -- a set of the
top 10, dated (monthly?), cork backed. (Huh...I think I should have majored
in new product design -- I'm on a roll here!)
Oh, oh, oh! Buzzword stickers. I can think of a few people's...uh, monitors
where I'd like to stick a sticker. Single buzzwords, as well as the whole
bingo card. Also the word with the "not" circle over it, and underneath the
buzzwordbingo url.
You'll need to have a links section, where folks nominate Buzzword-heavy
sites. I know a few I could nominate! This'd have to be out of a database,
so you could sort the set of links (daily?) by popularity of the buzzword
"category". And when a new buzzword makes it to the top ten, there should
be some sort of acknowledgement of the person who nominated the first site
using that buzzword.
A special meep! board just for Buzzword spotters, where we track trends and
nominate Buzzwordians. (Hmmm...should that be an honor for the person who
wins consistently, or a slap in the face award for folks who use too many
buzzwords in casual conversation? or are all of us Buzzword Bingo players
Buzzwordians? Naming things just right is soooo difficult.)
Official Buzzword Killer Awards -- even better than those High-Five awards,
this is where you nominate a site for being easy to understand. Needs a
better name though....and the team in charge of judging the award needs to
include a high-school English teacher, a reformed marketing person, and
some really *really* opinionated and published writer.
News....all the portals have news. I think you need to have someone write a
CGI that scans prweb.com on a daily basis, and creates a press release/news
section by pulling buzzword-heavy paragraphs from an assortment of
different releases.
The international section should show how buzzwords translate (or *not*)
into other languages. (How do you say "Synergy" in Japanese?)
Stocks...how about having a non-monetary stock watch, where the Buzzword
Industrial Average of the latest financial releases are taken into
consideration? You know: "IBM moved up 3/4 a % this quarter by
incorporating both "anchoring concept" and "neighboring" into it's latest
financial release, while Microsoft soared to an all-time high by having all
of the top ten buzzwords in a single paragraph!"
Whew....I think that's enough for now. That'll teach me to read "Jump Start
Your Brain" first thing in the morning. Think I'll go have another cup of
that BuzzWord Blend coffee now <wink>.
