I've always changed my monitor res on a regular basis, following those same
steps as Andreas wrote up for us. But about a month ago, Win 95 stopped
changing resolutions on me. I can change my settings all I want, but the
screen still looks the same. Windows *thinks* it has changed the display
(i.e. if you check the settings, it says what you changed to, not what it
was before), but nothing physically happens to how the stuff appears on the
screen unless I actually reboot the whole computer. Since it's now a bit
too much work to change resolutions, I seldom do. And it frustrates the
heck out of me that there are so many web sites out there that don't work
in 640x480 -- especially framed sites (grrrr).

Anyway, I just wanted to mention it because someone out there may at some
point have a client who claims to have changed to 800x600 but who actually
is still seeing 640x480. As always with Win95, if what you tried doesn't
seem to work, REBOOT!
