The last round of cuts (95ish) is what led to having no experienced "floor" employees to speak of when the company decided to make more planes in a month than it ever had in its entire history. I've been constantly amazed -- business books/concepts that *I* read in the 80s ... seem like "news" to some senior folks here, at the end of the 90s. Don't get me wrong -- there are too many folks working at Boeing -- but I don't believe that the tactics being used to reduce head count in [panic mode] are in the best long-term interests of the company. Many, many folks are comparing this with the early 70s [will the last person to leave Seattle please turn out the lights] although the region is not as linked with Boeing for employment. Kathy E.
