Thought you all might enjoy hearing about this bit from another list I'm on called "A List Apart". The standards group seems to be getting lots of good press. --Tamra Heathershaw-Hart ___________________________________________________________ Fight For Your Right to Standards! http://www.webstandards.org/ The WEB STANDARDS PROJECT is a new coalition of web developers and users. Our mission is to stop the fragmentation of the web, by persuading the browser makers that common standards are in everyone's best interest. With your help, we can make it happen. Join us! (Ad space donated by A List Apart) ___________________________________________________________ STANDARDS: UPDATE (MODERATOR NOTE) ___________________________________________________________ Your humble co-moderators (Brian and I) are actively involved with The Web Standards Project <http://www.webstandards.org/>, and we're grateful that many of you have joined as well. Last week we basked in the euphoria of an unexpectedly large international response to the project. This week we get down to business. The WaSP is now forming Action Committees to attack the problem on all fronts. New committees, helmed by experts and staffed by volunteers, are forming to evaluate each of the key components: XML, ECMAScript (son of JavaScript), CSS, and the DOM. But you don't need a PhD to participate. Other committees now forming will appeal to those with backgrounds in writing, marketing, publicity. One committee is working on reaching a segment of the online community that doesn't know Java from beans, and couldn't care less. Another is evaluating current web development tools, and will work directly with the manufacturers to help ensure that these tools generate valid code. Several major tool makers have already agreed to work with us; we hope to work with them all. There are other committees whose work can't be discussed at this time. Believe that it will be newsworthy, and that you'll hear about it here when the time is right. I've taken this time to assuage those who said, "We agree in theory, but what can we do besides talk about standards? How can we actually move forward?" We _are_ moving forward, and with your help we'll do even better. Remember, it's _our_ web. Thanks for listening. ~ JEFFREY ZELDMAN, Co-Moderator, A List Apart ___________________________________________________________ FAQ and sign-up page: http://www.alistapart.com To subscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To post: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------------- Join The Web Consultants Association : Register on our web site Now Web Consultants Web Site : http://just4u.com/webconsultants If you lose the instructions All subscription/unsubscribing can be done directly from our website for all our lists. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
