Linda, I have had clients like this as well. If I want the work, I
acquiesce to their request: no credit on the site that indicates they did
it.

I wouldn't worry about still being able to tell future prospects that you
designed the site, even if the site doesn't state that. If you are sincere
and convincing to the prospect, they'll take your word for it. I'm sure you
have other sites that have your name on them. Just explain to the prospect
that for that particular site, the client did not want any credits on the
site.

The important issue is to get a fair price for your work from this
customer, not to worry about whether or not your name is on the site.

As a side note, a recent client allowed me to put a credit on their site,
my usual "Developed and maintained by ToTheWeb.com" but they would not let
me hyperlink the domain name to my web site at http;//www.totheweb.com/

I told them this was kind of odd: since when web visitors see the domain
name on their homepage they will expect it to be a link. That's like
putting an email address on the page and not making it a link! Weird. <G>.

However, this client felt that my making my domain name a link, their
organization was in effect endorsing my site. Which since they chose me to
build their site you would think was okay. Sigh.... who can figure out some
people?
