I'm one of the few that have MSIE4 (W98). If you right click on the
IE icon on the desktop you can find a check box that stop IE from
modifying your setup. If I'm right you can find the same box with
earlier version of IE in the Internet setup in control panel.
After all MS is not that bad :-)
As you know IE4 is part of the OS so the icon on the desktop is
not a link.
BTW IE4 works not that bad on NT (no other browser on that
machine) and not that bad on W98 where I have other browser...
BTW2 I've recently upgraded to W98 after the last crash of W95... I
have been very scared when I was trying to install NS4 from a CD
and W98 crashed!!! I tryed again and well... now evrything seems
to work.
BTW3 last note about FAT32. Fortunately I've 2 partition on my HD
1 with programs and the other with data (really much important).
Of course I couldn't refrain myself to "optimize" the system.
Well W98 converted 1 of my partition to FAT98... since as I said
something went wrong... I've started my computer in DOS (true real
old DOS from floppy)... actually I wasn't unable to see the FAT32
partition.
Now I have an upgrade of W98... What does it happen to your
FAT32 partition if you have to reinstall W98 from DOS???
Of course I don't want to try!!!
Maybe the DOS cd driver will let you read the W98 CD and the
installation procedure will see the HD even if it is FAT32 but who
knows... anyway you'll have to reinstall W98 to read your data!!!
On my PII 233, Ultra DMA HD, CD 24x it takes an hour!!!
Good luck and have fun.
