What can we do for these guys... Hmmm.... how about a site with:
* Weather reports including charts
* Bathymetric charts and whatever they call those things
* Spotting reports with near term trends
* Harvest tonnage reports vs recommended maximums
* Day, week, month, and yearly comparisons and trend analysis
* Ecology of how much can be fished before decline
* GPS location feedback to show where the boats are
right on the bathymetric charts
Help spacing and give sense of temporary "territory" to prevent
over-fishing.
* Boat contributed thermal profiles
* Call signs and frequencies of fishing ships
* Email and chat services
* Investor information for those looking for financial help
Your chance to invest in Joe's Codfish Boat!
* Jobs info
And funded by:
* Fish buyer's advertising and index
* Suppliers to the trade advertising and index
* Tourist tours -- work a day on a real cod boat!
* Tourist info center
We could probably make it self funding from the advertising. Beam the
info out either via cell modems, satellite links, or... make them do it
from home...
I was about to toss in some search engine stats on cod and fishing,
but the hit counts are very low except for lots of Cape Cod hits. But,
why go to Cape Cod, when you can go see, even participate in, The Real
Thing! Nova Scotia, the Cod Capital of the World! (Or some semblance
there of.)
Run it buy a some of them! See if they bite. Good chance for a
little pro bono work that might lead to site upgrades or some free
seafood.
The city of Phoenix, Arizona was created buy a surveyor who
wanted to cross the river, but didn't have the fare. He surveyed and
market out a city, then charged the ferry boat operator the price of the
crossing for some river front property...
Isn't that sort of what we are doing on the web, laying out cities of
information and swapping them for essentials, and then selling the rest
for a profit?
