Thanks to Ivan, I now have cookies! That was the simplest explanation
of the bunch, and I do like simplicity. One added line in the headers,
and an extra environmental variable to check. Simplicity!

Mat, your example was good too! Same for you, James. Thanks to all of
you.

On my non-www desktop machine, the whoami.cgi sends out a
"tollhouse-cookie", which will show up in the environmental variables when
one reloads the output. No Betty Webber or Websbury Cookie Mix needed!

Peter, I appreciate your comments about subroutines, but calling a
subroutine for a one line function just isn't efficient. An awful lot of
the functions I see in programs are one or two liners that are not
available in other languages. Knowledge is more readily transportable
across platforms, and the more knowledge you accumulate, the more chance
some of it will distill into wisdom. But sometimes, I too use short
subroutines. It just depends.

That was probably covered in my Webmaster in a Nutshell book, but I
had loaned it to someone. (You mean someone wrote a four inch thick book
on that simple stuff??? Man, I must be in the wrong profession! Then
again, I just can't bring myself to obfusificate things very well. My
college English kept telling me I didn't write enough. But then,
while the rest of the class wrote half a booklet full of stuff for the
final exam, I wrote one short paragraph and got an A+.)

Ivan, you get the A+ on this one. Short, Sweet, and working in under
a minute! (Ok, two. Took me that long to realize I needed to do a refresh
before I saw it get back to the cgi to show up in the ENV var's.)
