I'm with Kathy on this.  Graphics/pictures which serve a communication
purpose are welcome.  Those that are just there because someone felt
they were cute are unwelcome and wasteful.  (And I'd include most
instances of pictures used to bring a little personality to a site
in the former, *provided* they're not intrusive or large or unavoidable.)

The overuse of graphics is one of the reasons that I use a text-only
browser a good deal of the time.  There have been many days I've wondered
if a text-only web would be just as -- if not *more* -- useful, because
it would stop people from cluttering their sites with fluff.  (It'd
also do wonders for bandwidth.)
