Government charges Microsoft ``altered database'' -2

In its emergency filing with District Court Judge Thomas
Penfield Jackson, the government said: ``In effect, Microsoft
has altered its database to exclude much relevant information
from what is made available to plaintiffs.''
The company disagreed and said that the government's
'''emergency' motion is simply an improper attempt to rewrite''
the government subpoena to ``obtain every piece of information
in a corporate wide database about every product'' and every
means of selling them.
A trial begins Oct. 19 on allegations by the Justice
Department and 20 states that Microsoft used monopoly power to
compete unfairly.
Microsoft says that it competes hard but within the law.
