SPAMMER SUED BY WASHINGTON STATE
The owner of a company called Natural Instincts is being charged by
Washington State for violation of its four-month-old legislation against
sending unsolicited bulk e-mail ("spamming"). The solicitations --which
used forged return addresses and were sent under the subject line "Did I get
the right e-mail address?" -- offered customers access to 50,000 e-mail
addresses for $39.95. Washington's attorney general Christine Gregoire says
that the messages "clearly crossed the boundary from being annoying to being
illegal." (ZDNet 23 Oct 98)

Chris is a bulldog. She sheparded a huge case that the state filed against
the feds RE Hanford Nuclear Facility - and won. She was a major player in
the states' efforts against tobacco. Not saying she's right or wrong -- just
that she's tenacious.
