Hiya gang,

We just rolled one of our interns over into a full-time position to
handle a specific promotional campaign. It involves building a
promotional campaign for an online publication. The publication is a
daily UN news summary that will be available in email and web formats.

We know just about where to market this thing initially, have internal
UN email lists and all that good stuff. The first 25K subscribers are a
breeze. However, over time, the marketing of this publication will need
to be coordinated with a host of other public relations efforts that
will draw a wide variety of general and specific audiences into the mix,
and eventually we want it to pay for itself through its own ad sales.

I can handle helping her out with learning how to acquire targetted
lists and identifying web site ad opportunities to target, but I'd like
to get her started on a series of books to help her out "generally".
I'm starting her off with Chomsky's 'Manufacturing Consent' just to set
the tone <G>, but am seeking recommendations for titles covering:

1. Marketing generally, presented in a way that if at all possible
addresses grass roots campaigns, non-profits, or has some relevance to
on-line initiatives

2. Internet Advertising/Marketing specifically: how to do it, how to
set rates, who does it right, how to manage it, etc.

3. Something with an overview of ad management software and
techniques/approaches

4. Some kind of general promotions topics that address identifying
audiences and basic demographics, determining and crafting messages for
those audiences, etc.

Some of you marketing and promotions gurus mind sharing your favorite
treatises? I'll be happy to compile a list and post the best of later
if we get some good stuff.

Gracias.

Brett
