Hi, I'm still in the market for a Visual Basic app developer via referral, if anyone can recommend one. I'm looking for someone to do a short-term project (between 2-5 days work). The candidate must be an experience VB developer, not just someone who has dabbled in it. An understanding of POSTing strings to web servers, text file manipulation and fundamental relational database stuff will be helpful: the app will be a freestanding desktop app that will: 1. read a comma delimited text file (and/or a .dbf format file) on the local drive 2. reformat the text (or .dbf) file so it matches a database structure on my remote server (end result will be in comma-delimited format) 3. locate some local jpg's that are associated with fields in the text file 4. send the reformatted text file and jpg's to the remote server via tcp/ip. 5. trigger a script on the remote server There are a handful of tcp/ip "custom controls" (also called OCX or ActiveX) available for VB to help in the development process. After the data gets to the server, a script on the server, which I will write, will read the new text file and insert records into a database on the server (there are a lot of inserts, so I'd rather run them all in one batch, rather than try to have the VB app insert them one at a time via CGI). jpg filenames will be saved in the server database as text. jpg files will be filed in their appropriate place for later retrieval. This will all be handled by the server-side script and will not have to be developed by the VB app person. This piece is only one part of the app that I need, but it is the first part I need. More work related to this project will inevitably arise.
