I'm wrapping up a small Cold Fusion application (NT/Access -- it's a small
database) and wondered who else on the list has tried or is using the tool.
Went to an Allaire session today in Seattle:
- ColdFusion is now available for Solaris
- Growth rate is such that 1st quarter 98 sales >> sales for calendar 97
and has been this way for several quarters
- In response to a question from the audience re a rumor that Microsoft had
tried to buy Allaire "no they don't want us, we do unix. but they did try
to buy Homesite" (which Allaire bought instead - can you imagine if they
hadn't <shudder>).
- MS has a site license for HomeSite (gee, you mean that they don't use
FrontPage for all their sites <g>)
- There is an academic discount for both CF server and Studio (Studio is
HomeSite on steroids -- it includes all the cold fusion tagging plus a lot
of other cool stuff)
- CF is scalable (how does one 'prove' that?)
- Allaire remains privately held
There was also a consultancy from Vancouver, BC there -- one of their CF
applications (which looks like adminstration, enterprise e-mail, etc.) can
be switched from English to German, French or Japanese (!) -- the
consultant (who was Japanese) changed the language preferences, logged out,
logged back in -- and voila -- typing = Japanese as did things like
"submit". Wow!
