*hehe* This is precisely what led me to do a quick survey. My gut
reaction was no as well. But then it occurred to me that someone *had*
to be smart enough to realize they could never compete with the
hormonally extended teenage boys. What I was asking myself was "do they
really think these people will come to the site?"

But then, when I stepped back, it seems to me the real market is, in
fact, teenage *girls*. Not the people that want to look at Cindy, but
people that want the vicarious connection to Cindy's life. No? The
Tiger Beat and "fanzine" crowd, perhaps.

Anyway, that started a whole train of thought. It does seem you could
get that type of crowd to install (and pay for) proprietary movie
viewers and picture formats. They might be more willing to pay for the
"club" features. You get better control over content, copyright, and
presentation. Etc.

Anyway, with thought, it occurred to me that if it did fly, it might
actually be a model we saw more of . . . less marketing of celebrity
goods, and more marketing of celebrity access.

Not sure whether I like it or not, but it does score brownie points for
being original and making me think *grin* The concern that keeps
flaring up in the back of my head is that, in the end, it probably won't
be tech companies or license owners that make the final determination
about the rise of proprietary formats and standards splitting, but the
market for the end property "items". This could be great for artists
(do a search for Todd Rundgren to see some good ideas in this area) on
the whole, but no mater which way I look it tends to suck for open
standards-loving people like ourselves :)
