Are you repopulating all the tables in the database?  If so, it might be easier to
just replace the old version with a clean empty version instead of deleting the
content and adding it again.  I compact one of our databases weekly, but haven't
found a way to do it automatically.  However, in my case, I'm in the database
regularly anyhow, so it's not a problem to do it manually.
