Had a meeting today with some gov't folks regarding an intranet project
I'm doing for them, and goodness it got kind of absurd after awhile:
couldn't we (the net community) have picked a better name than 'intranet'
for networks that are internal versions of the 'internet'??

Here's what I mean. The meeting was to discuss how the intranet, once
done, would integrate with the current internet site. Sounds simple when
you see it written down, but boy, what a schmozzle when it's all spoken.
Especially when half the people there are French, with the resulting
accent.

Here's a rough transcription of one part of the meeting (I must admit, it
did get me to giggling after awhile... I got some strange looks <g>) We'll
call the speakers A, B and C:

A: "So the intranet site will be using the new Javascript menu --"

B: "InTRAH?"

A: "Pardon?"

C: "He said inTURR. Internet."

A: "No, I said the inTRAH. I meant the inTRAHnet site."

B: "Oh OK, internet."

A: "TRAH, TRAH. InTRAHnet."

C: "Sorry, OK, inTRAHnet. Not inTURR."

B: [laughing] "Yeah, dummy."

A: "So with the menus on the intranet, we'll need something similar on the
internet, but not the same script because it's 4.x browsers only --"

C: "On the inTURRnet?"

A: "TRAH. The inTURRnet can't be 4.x-only".

Etc etc etc. Sigh. Was funny though :)
