Funny thing about that, the vast availability of color printing,
colored papers, and all kinds of stuff like that has not resulted in a
spate of bizzare pastel colored paper books, nor in much more than an
occasional color photo in most printing. Clear readable text sells.
The purpose of text, is information, and more intellectual
entertainment, where the user can set a stage far beyond that of any set
designer, a stage where you can take the first person role, be in Clancy's
Ramuis, captain of the Red October submarine, or some obscure gumshoe in
Azimov's Science Fiction Magazine, who keeps his time machine stored under
a trash can.
The imaginationally challenged can watch TV's pale attempts to
recreate the master's works. (I'd like to see them try to re-create the
scale of the strawberry that filled lake Erie:

As our sites succeed, we begin to bump the bandwidth limits of our
sites. And then, our pretense at artistic images begins to cost us. We
begin to re-evaluate what is at the core of the messages we are trying to
convey.
