Wish I could. These are real UNIX boxes, and I can't install anything
that isn't approved. Besides, this client isn't going to spring for
anything, as we are just supposed to march off the edge of the cliff like
Real Heros. (Not what I signed up for... but you know how the recruiting
posters are.) If I can automate this stuff, we have a chance. If not...
well... I have my parachute. (They don't; they are employees.)

Hmmm... Not available as far as I know... Besides, it isn't just one
little string I am looking for. I have to count carriage returns, check
for messages indicating things finished, etc.
(Would be tempting to put my good old Linux notebook on the LAN...
just unplug my desktop workstation, and substitute my puny puntium
notebook. Not sure what my life expectancy would be when all the
corporate web robots, NFS automounters and such start kicking out flags
that expected files, directories, and NFS mounts are not there. This
place is wired, webbed, and everything else. If my machine went down, my
co-workers, my boss and his boss would know it in about ten minutes.)
