Hi, Jack, I was talking about the *web* server, not the CF application server. The CF
server has to be on Solaris if you need UNIX today; HP-UX is in beta; Linux is in
developmet.

It's my understanding from the CF folks here that while CF App Server is on NT, it can
"talk to" [or be talked to] NCSA or NES or Apache on HP-UX.

Have I misunderstood?

Linux Is The Web Server's Choice
http://www.zdnet.com/sr/stories/issue/0,4537,2196115,00.html
The answer: Linux with Apache beats NT 4.0 with IIS, hands down. SuSE, the least
effective Linux, is 16 percent faster than IIS, and Caldera, the leader, is 50
percent faster.

The Best Windows File Server: Linux!

You might think that Linux would operate at a disadvantage here, but Linux kicks NT's
butt. Only at the lightest loads does NT hold any advantage over the Linuxes. Once
the load moves to 12 clients, all the Linux platforms take commanding leads over NT.
At 32 clients, SuSE, the weakest Linux, has more than double NT's throughput, and Red
Hat, the leader, extends its lead to almost 250 percent of NT's performance.

Spooky -- now ZD has an "infopack" on Linux

[aside: will this flurry of attention fade if MSFT wins the DOJ case?]

I just spent 20 minutes on zd, trying to find any other web server benchmarks,
analysis -- to no avail. But I found this ...

IBM to announce Linux-based Netfinity servers at LinuxWorld on 2 March.
