I think it's a sign that the thieves (for that's what spammers are)
have discovered the 'net and attempting to cash in at our expense
before we develop sufficient technology to stop them. These are
jerks who can't make a legitimate living and so have resorted
to denial-of-service/theft-of-service attacks disguised as "advertising"
in order to use our resources for their gain.
The cure for spam is obliteration: I have a scorched-earth policy toward
spammers, and will pursue them unmercifully until their mail is
cut off, their access revoked, and their web sites deleted. These people
are the scumbags of the 'net, and I strongly urge everyone else to
adopt the same take-no-prisoners policy. The 'net was a much better
place before they came along, and it will be a much better place
again once we've wiped them out.
