Hi, George:

There are two issues -- the characters in the sig line and the soft line break.

1) < =3D=3D >
It is my understanding that this means that the character "sent" was not an ASCII
character. For example, I have an "apple" in one of my sig lines -- which other Mac
people can read -- but which isn't ASCII and *certainly* has no corresponding image on
a PC keyboard <g>. So, for those non-Macs who get the mail -- their mail reader
substitutes "gibberish" like this.

2) < =20 > soft line return.
This is a function of the e-mail client, I believe. UNIX, Mac and Wintel all have
different "soft return" characters [when the line "wraps" around the window versus
hitting the "return" key for a hard return]. The < = 20 > is a vestige of one of them
that isn't "proper" code for the e-mail server. I think the culprit is Wintel, but I
can't remember. And I did a net search and couldn't find the answer.

See http://www.slashdot.org/ for a recent article on how MSFT products are sending
along a lot of non-standard characters these days, even in the guise of ASCII.
