It's important because AOL is headquartered in VA -- but also because the ACLU opposes
it. Did ACLU oppose the federal law against broadcast spam Faxes?

I wonder how this differs from Washington's anti-spam law -- I know the AG's office
has copied me on two complaints being filed on behalf of the state (because I was one
of the 'complaintants' in each instance). Does an AG office prosecute civil matters?

VIRGINIA LAW WOULD MAKE SPAMMING A CRIME
<http://www.mercurycenter.com/svtech/news/breaking/merc/docs/023500.htm>

RICHMOND, Va. -- Lawmakers in Virginia, home to
America Online Inc., the nation's largest Internet
service provider, adopted legislation Tuesday that
would make it a crime to send mass, unsolicited
electronic mailings, or spam, on the Internet.

The bill, which Gov. James Gilmore has promised to
sign, would make Virginia the first state in the nation
to have the power to criminally prosecute people
accused of spamming.
