let's be fair, it is not always simple to remove oneself from mailing
lists. (I DON'T want to leave this one!) Here are a few reasons I've run
into trouble with my subscription on other lists:

     * IP numbers sometimes change, making requests seem invalid.
     * ISP's sometimes change machine names (As do users...)
     * Corporations change firewall server names
     * People change ISP's and belatedly realize the won't be forwarded
         forever
     * Subscription info may be confusing or missing.
(I am on digest on one list despite numerous protests --
they say use the page, but there IS NO non-digest subscription
          entry.)
     * Some lists are handled manually, and moderators may move or go on
          vacations. (Lists can become toxic!)

So you see, there are sometimes legitimate reasons some people can't
remove themselves. I recently had to send nastygrams to the
postmasters two levels up in order to get off one list. The list owner
kept heatedly telling me to remove myself, obviously not reading my
explanations; several machine names had changed in my path, and so the
subscription system kept rejecting my requests. Finally, his ISP's tech
support removed me for him, and received my warm thanks.

This is one of the better run lists I am on, but no list is immune to
problems. (And let me repeat, I am NOT asking to be removed! Hence my
not using the U word.)
