Hi, Gang: OK, I decided I wanted to update my evaluation resources (precursor to adding this to my writing for the web class) - here's what NetTrain folks provided in the (almost) space of a heartbeat. BTW - the archives of the list are searchable (I think) - I admitted laziness upfront and asked indulgence! Forward to your children's teachers! -- from NetTrain -- ========= there are so many good resources it's hard to begin to mention some. Karen Hartman and I did a presentation at EDUCOM 98 that mentions a few along with some ways to evaluate."Meeting the Challenge of Critically Evaluating Information on the Internet and the World Wide Web" http://www.mwc.edu/ernie/search/presentations/educom98.html. -- Ernest C. It's titled "Lessons Learned: Exemplary Practices in Teaching Web Evaluation" and it's available at http://lib.nmsu.edu/staff/susabeck/checs98.html ========= From: David Hoyte <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Evaluating Internet Resources The is a course available on the Web for Evaluating the Quality of Internet Resources, which I can heartily recommend. It is at: http://sosig.ac.uk/desire/internet-detective.html ========= There seem to be two sets of criteria by which web pages should be judged. First, there's determining what is credible information. For that, the librarians at Johns Hopkins University have taken the time to give you some good information on how to choose what's best for you" <http://milton.mse.jhu.edu:8001/research/education/net.html> Next you should check for the quality of the design of the pages you find. This is especially important to understand before you begin contributing to the store of knowledge. It doesn't matter how good the information is if no one can stand looking at the presentation. One reputable source for web design style is Sun Microsystems Guide to Web Style: <http://www.sun.com/styleguide/tables/Welcome.html> To sum up what you've read in these two rather large sites, you might also check out the evaluation forms created by Karen McLachlan, librarian at East Knox High School in Howard, Ohio. One is suppose to be for content evaluation: <http://www.cyberbee.com/guide1.html> and the other for web site design: <http://www.cyberbee.com/guide2.html> They both have nice lists of criteria at the bottom of each form. One last quick-view site is "Evaluating and Verifying Resources" from a Web98 presentation by Karen Hartman and Ernest Ackermann: <http://www.mwc.edu/ernie/search/presentations/webnet98/webnet98text.html#me nu6"> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rachael Green Adjunct Instructor School of Library & Information Studies Texas Woman's University Denton, TX Stoddard Hall Room 408 Phone: 940/898-2605 Fax: 940/898-2611 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] URL: http://venus.twu.edu/~j_2green ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > Kathy E.
