This population is not a good barometer for the 'general public' but is
probably a good surrogate for "medium and power" users.

NOTE the large % of folks who Don't Know what their rez is - they're
probably at 640x480. And remember WebTV - it's smaller yet. So is a
PalmPilot.

ARGHHH.

A pox on windows and all its children.

21" wide lines Are Not Readable!

Not every dingbat wants their browser to monopolize the entire #@#!#@ desktop!

While I understand Charlotte's frustration -- part of our job as web
developers *must* be education -- and part of that education is that this
is not a print medium - we do NOT have control over the "printer" which is
this case is a monitor. nor do we have control over our end user settings
(hense, small/big with Charlotte).

And Charlotte, ANYONE can set their default font sizes to something
"readable" for them. I have my set at 16 pt on the 1024 monitor at boeing -
and I HAVE to boost them on the Mac because of all the #@$!#@ windows
designers that spec fonts at aboluste font size=1.

Typography is not absolute on the web. Add to the fray the fact that
windows fonts are 30% larger than Mac fonts (on screen) due to how they
are rendered in pixels.

ARGHHH.

I think I'm venting because I'm currently writing about accessible web
sites (waht they are and aren't) and how tools can help (or hinder).

I go to MSFT to read what they say about FrontPage - find a Word Doc
(whitepaper) that I can't read because it's saved as a #@#!$ EXE file. And
they have a "how to get rid of underlines" tip in the Front Page goodies
index.

ARGHHH.

I think I need to go for a walk.
