One of the ways you could learn is by going to an ISP and applying for a
part time job in the tech support dept. That's what I'm doing and it will
be like getting paid to go to school. 

Having dealt with my ISP for over 2 years I have gained many contacts and
they are now asking that I interview for a job even though they know my
Linux skills are not very good. They are willing to train based upon my
internet knowledge and people skills. You could do the same thing.

Free is good. Education is great. Getting paid for education is better.
