Hi Jack,
I can't comment on Verisign, although an associate of mine who also is on the
list has used it, but I have had very positive experiences with Thawte. The
process to get things moving for Thawte is very easy, and the price is lower than
Verisign (only $125). They have a very good associates program for ISPs and IPPs
as well; if you do the work of gathering the information and have the billing go
to you directly, they charge $100 vs. the normal $125. That way, you can charge
your customers the normal $125, and still be paid for your efforts of setting up
the secure id.
There is a very small issue with Thawte, and that is that they had an SSL
certificate rollover for version 3.x browsers on July 27, 1998. As I understand
it, this is something that Versign will hit around the year 2000. There is
simple process to update the browser certificate, and Thawte has very good
support materials to help your customers through the updates.
Best Regards,
