I am beginning to see a (very) few e-mails from the list, some from
the 18th and even 17th! And a few that are several hours old, even
adjusting for local time.
My current thoughts are that the server is just bogged and sendmail
(or whatever mail agent they are using) is not properly configured.
I recall that shortly after the chat pages went in, I began seeing
e-mails quoting other e-mails that I had not recalled seeing before.
Unless close to half the people moved off the list to the web chat
pages when those came available, my guess is that the ISP has seriously
misjudged the loading of the machine, and the list handler is not given
adequate resources to do its job; and has not been doing a its job since
the chat pages went in. Then, when some other resource consuming tasks
were added to the server this past weekend, it started trashing enough
e-mails that it became blatantly obvious to some of us that we just are
not getting most of the e-mail on this list!
I have had two conversations with Just4u's ISP, Clever.net in Atlanta
Monday, and they just don't seem to have a clue as to what is wrong,
blaming a connection in Las Vegas. Having set up a shadow list to a few
people who's posts I had saved, I find that I am getting comments from the
East Coast, even Israel, that there almost no traffic on the list in the
past few days. All that e-mail isn't going through Las Vegas! Between
that, and the recent well aged e-mails I have received, it seems clear
that the delays are all happening on the Just4u.com server on Clever.net,
not in some hypothetical routers around the world.
(All we have used the shadow list for, is to discuss the problem.
It is NOT an attempt to steal traffic from the REAL web consultant's list.
I DO NOT want that kind of traffic through my puny modem link. If this
list is bogging a real ISP's machines, it would probably make internet
road kill out of my PCs . No Thanks!)
