Unfortunately Network Solutions is a puppet of the federal government (specifically the FCC) trying to give sole source to ICANN which is attempting to privatize the Net Domain assignments. The danger is a non-controlled private group beyond the reach of citizen oversight that will decide who or who does not qualify for Net Domains.
