Whoa! Bounty Alert!!
I seem to dimly recall a problem like this when I set up my Luc-servers
a year back. Are you sure that you have the appropriate SASL AUTH
PLUGINS installed? Are you sure the versions all match? This drive me
nuts, but there should be something in the list archives about this. I
think I had to install saslauthplug-plain or something like that to get
it to work.

Shouldnt you have MECH=PAM in your saslauthd startup script???? I
know you have to have it in one of saslauthd's config files... Ill
check my startup script later to see what i have...
