This is an option, but only as some kind of "last resort" because we're
trying to put as much as possible into the database. Unfortunately the
database lookups don't seem to "understand" pcre syntax in the tables.
openmailadmin for example solves this by adding a pcre column in a
database table and lets a cron job export this into a pcre style map
file but this is rather a nasty hack IMHO.

Anyway - thanks for the hint, I'm probably going to use the pcre map
until I (hopefully) found a better solution.
