I didn't know that INBOX is the top-level-folder and any other foldes have to be subfolders. but - as defined in the imapd.conf - why are there no folders named Trash Sent or Drafts??

Try using Thunderbird to log in to your mailbox (at least the first time).
It will create all the common folders on Top-Level (Sent, Trash, Drafts). Manually created Folders are always subfolders of INBOX.
