well, i certainly agree with your concept. I very much wanted to have a "pure" LDAP for authentication when I set up my company's cyrus server last year, but since it was my first implementation of web-cyradmin , I decided to go with the simple, default arrangement (everything in mysql) and no LDAP...
I think the beauty of doing a conventional LDAP for authentication is that you could use that LDAP database to authenticate all sorts of other services besides email... so it would help to set a foundation for authentication services in your organization. But, I too felt the LDAP with mysql as the backend was a bit awkward and I would have been uncomfortable extending that framework to authenticate other services. So i think it would be a far better fit for enterprise implementations if we could do our cyrus admin under web-cyradm and have some simple way to make cyrus interface with a conventional LDAP server (or god-forbid, an Active Directory server) for authentication. but keep in mind, i'm just an engineer...and not much of a programmer, so i have no idea how difficult that might be to do... but it sure would be nice to have and I'd definitely use it. -- Ted Targosz Business Development/Operations Manager Jobstreet.com "Today is especially delicious!" - Nacho Libre On Tue, 2006-10-03 at 11:06 +0300, Mikko Toivola wrote: > Hi everyone. > > I've been searching info about LDAP-support in web-cyradmin, and > found the only one we all already know, which in fact makes use of > mysql as a backend for LDAP.
